Introducing Kelly Heeley

Creating something extraordinary from nothing. This is the magical alchemy of songwriting, and it is what has captivated Toronto singer-songwriter Kelly Heeley from day one. Although relatively new to the music scene, Kelly’s songs are evocative of the soundscapes of Matt Corby and Bon Iver. He’s currently going into the studios at Cherry Beach Sound and Union Sound regularly to record and release singles.

“I’m trying to create music that feels like the cure to a memory, or a feeling,” he says, and his careful, soulful approach to writing and recording is allowing his sound to slowly blossom. It’s no wonder Kelly has a perfectionist’s bent–his introduction to singing was opera. He was a boy soprano in the Canadian Children’s Opera Chorus, but as his voice grew and matured, Kelly was left unsure of where his true passion for music lay.

It wasn’t until he began spending time in the studio in his early 20s that Kelly again found his voice. Now, he’s collaborating with Nashville-based producer and engineer Johnny Simmen to develop his repertoire. “I’m a little selfish in that I want to make music that I’m proud of and that I love.” As his catalogue of music grows, expect to see him hit the road to play live.
